Some time in the near future, what many of us are dreading has come to pass. Much of the world is in a state of catastrophe. Economies and governments have collapsed, new and more dangerous forms of disease are killing people, people are rioting in the cities. But this book isn't about all of that, it's about two young sisters, Nell and Eva, who try to survive with only their childhood home in remote California and the forest to depend on. It's an engrossing and fairly quick read. However, I'm still not sure how I feel about the end. I believe it was the logical conclusion to the novel, but I have mixed feelings about the fate of the sisters and has me wanting to know what happens next, after the book ends.
